Amsterdam, 1 November – Serve the City is launching a new initiative to highlight the positive impact of expats in Amsterdam. On 21 February 2025, the very first Expat of the Year Award will be presented to an expat who has made a special contribution to the Amsterdam community.
With this initiative, Serve the City wants to offer a counterpoint to the sometimes negative perception of expats in the city. Because besides the challenges that growth brings, there are also many positive stories to tell about international Amsterdammers who make a valuable contribution.
Brigitte, founder of Serve he City, stresses the importance of volunteering as a bridge between expats and local Amsterdammers. ‘In our experience, many internationals are eager to give something back to the city that welcomed them. By volunteering, they not only make new contacts, but also contribute to a better society.’
Facts and figures
The success of volunteering among expats is evident from the figures: last year, as many as 3,000 expats volunteered through Serve the City.
