Would you like to do something beautiful for someone else this Christmas 2025? You can!
In 2024, more than 500 volunteers participated in our “Reverse Advent Calendar” campaign, resulting in 1,000 personalized Christmas boxes lovingly put together for undocumented people in Amsterdam. In 2025, we’re bringing this initiative back. We’d love for you, your company, your street, or your school class to join in!
Here’s how it works:
Instead of taking something out of your advent calendar each day, you add an item to your Christmas box. By Christmas, you’ll have a box full of wonderful items ready to donate to an Amsterdam family in need.
Joining the Christmas box donation campaign is easy:
- Sign up via the registration form
- Get a large box to fit all the items
- Fill the box with the items listed
- Drop it off at one of Serve the City’s collection points
We’ll make sure your box reaches someone in the city who could use a helping hand. For you, it might be a small gesture as a volunteer to do something good in Amsterdam this Christmas—but for the recipient, it can make a big difference. Volunteering has never been so simple and joyful during the holidays!

Normally, you take something out of an advent calendar each day, but with the Reverse Advent Calendar, it works the other way around. Every day in December, you place a small gift, a practical item, or a treat into a box. By the end of the advent period, you’ll have a box filled with surprises and useful items.
In total, your Reverse Advent Calendar box will contain 21 different essentials for a festive Christmas dinner. The total cost per box is about €35.
You can drop off your box at one of Serve the City’s locations, and we’ll make sure it reaches people in Amsterdam who could really use some extra support and warmth during the holidays. This way, the countdown to Christmas becomes meaningful not just for you, but for someone else too.
